About Our Event
Dr. John Wrasse was a beloved pediatrician who practiced at IU Health Riley Physicians in Bloomington before his unexpected passing from unknown heart disease in February 2021. Bike 4 Fitness was established as an annual ride to realize Dr. Wrasse’s long held dream of a community event to promote fitness and bike safety, benefiting local children. All Bike 4 Fitness proceeds benefit Riley Children's Fund of Bloomington. Dr. Wrasse was a lifelong cyclist and tireless advocate of cycling for fitness and fun. He was a stickler for insisting on proper helmet use and bike safety among his patient families.
Bike 4 Fitness is held at Bloomington's Switchyard Park and features two ride options. We offer a 2-mile loop around Switchyard Park and the B-Line Trail, and an 11.17 mile loop option that extends to the bridge at Clear Creek Trail. We invite non-cyclists to walk with us on the park loop. The 3rd Annual Dr. Wrasse Memorial Bike 4 Fitness will take place August 5, 2023. Registration will open in the spring.
In addition to Bike 4 Fitness, there is a scholarship being established at the IU School of Medicine in Dr. Wrasse's name, in recognition of his passion for mentoring medical students. Contributions to the John D. Wrasse, MD Memorial Scholarship at the IU School of Medicine are gratefully accepted at any time. Thank you!
There are four goals for the Bike 4 Fitness:
Honor the memory of Dr. Wrasse and increase awareness about the IU School of Medicine John D. Wrasse, MD Memorial Scholarship Endowment.
Encourage family fitness and fun while promoting bike safety and the use of helmets.
Raise funds for the Riley Children's Fund - Bloomington to be used locally.
Increase awareness about heart health.
